Evaluation of Scatter Fraction (sf) of a 16-ring Positron Emission Tomography (pet) System
نویسنده
چکیده
Scatter fraction (SF) characteristic of a newly constructed 16-ring PET system with a FOV of 20 cm was experimentally evaluated in 2D acquisition mode (ring difference ≤ 3) but without septa, using a 10 cm diameter phantom. The scatter fraction measured from the backprojected images and the sinogram data aiming to find the discrepancy between the two approaches and to test the camera performance operating without septa. The images were reconstructed by the filtered backprojection (FBP) technique using some different filter functions. SF measured from the reconstructed images agreed within uncertainties and had a mean value of 26.1±0.8% at 250-850 keV energy and 12 ns coincidence time window. Scatter fraction also measured from analysis of the PET sinogram was slightly lower, at 23.6 ±0.7%. In each case, the procedure used for estimating the background under the peak is only approximate, and this may account for the slight discrepancy between the two approaches. The results so far indicate that the system can be operated in 2D mode without septa.

Combined PET/CT scanners now play a major role in medicine for in vivo imaging in oncology, cardiology, neurology, and psychiatry. As the performance of a scanner depends not only on the scintillating material but also on the scanner design, with regards to the advent of newer scanners, there is a need to optimize acquisition protocols as well as to compare scanner ...
متن کاملThe effect of fasting on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging
As a nuclear approach, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a functional imaging technique which is based on the detection of gamma ray pairs emitted by a positron-emitting radionuclide. There are certain limitations to this technique such as normal tissue uptake. Therefore, it has been recommended that patients prepare before scanning. Fasting for a short while before PET imaging is an exampl...
متن کاملEffect of scatter coincidences, partial volume, positron range and non-colinearity on the quantification of FDOPA Patlak analysis
Introduction: The key characteristics of positron emission tomography (PET) are its quantitative capability and its sensitivity, which allow the in vivo imaging of biochemical interactions with small amounts of tracer concentrations. Therefore, accurate quantification is important. However, it can be sensitive to several physical factors. The aim of this investigation is the assessment of the e...
متن کاملdAcquisition setting optimization and quantitative imaging for 124I studies with the Inveon microPET-CT system
BACKGROUND Noninvasive multimodality imaging is essential for preclinical evaluation of the biodistribution and pharmacokinetics of radionuclide therapy and for monitoring tumor response. Imaging with nonstandard positron-emission tomography [PET] isotopes such as 124I is promising in that context but requires accurate activity quantification. The decay scheme of 124I implies an optimization of...

Introduction Range and diffusion of positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals are important parameters for image resolution in positron emission tomography (PET). In this study, GEANT4 toolkit was applied to study positron diffusion in soft tissues with and without a magnetic field for six commonly used isotopes in PET imaging including 11C, 13N, 15O, 18F, 68Ga, and 82Rb. Materials and Methods GEA...
